Do you have death notices or obituaries?

You can search the Cleveland Necrology File & News Index for death notices.

The Cleveland Necrology File was produced from a microfilmed copy of an alphabetical card file containing local cemetery records and newspaper death notices gathered by the staff of the Cleveland Public Library. These notices span from about 1850-1975. This file is not an official or complete record of deaths in the Cleveland area during those years.

The Cleveland News Index lists citation information for local news stories, feature articles and reviews from about 1975-2014 and does not include the full text. If you locate a citation from the Cleveland News Index and would like a scan of the article, you can either use this webform request or email clgh@cpl.org with the citation information. We will fill your request as quickly as possible.

Also available with your Cleveland Public Library card are the Plain Dealer Historical (1845-1991)Plain Dealer (1991-current), and Call & Post databases.
