You can apply for a Cleveland Public Library card in the following ways:

• In-Person

  • Adults aged 18 and older must fill out an application and present valid government-issued photo identification along with proof of current address (if not listed on the ID). 

  • Acceptable proof of a current address: a printed personal check showing the current address, a utility bill or a postcard with a recent postmark (within last 30 days) received at the address shown on the application.

  • Acceptable forms of photo identification include a driver’s license, state ID card, passport, and US military ID.

  • You can Print the Adult Library Card Application and bring it with you to any Cleveland Public Library location.

• Online / eCard:
  • Apply for a CPL eCard online by clicking here. 
  • Your eCard application will be processed manually and notification will be sent to your email address within 2-3 business days. 
  • You must upload/attach proof of your library card eligibility to your eCard application. This can be a photo taken with the phone of your driver's license, water bill, etc.
  • Applicants will receive an email with their library card number and their PIN/Password once their application has been processed. 
  • Once you receive your eCard email response, you will have access to all of Cleveland Public Library's electronic resources, including eBooks, research databases, and online classes.
  • Your eCard can be upgraded to a full access card, allowing you to checkout physical library items at any CLEVNET library, by stopping into any CPL branch and providing proof of current address. 
  • Anyone who lives, works, goes to school, or owns property in the State of Ohio is eligible.

OverDrive Instant Card (only provides access to eBooks & eAudiobooks via Overdrive/Libby) 

• Apply for an Overdrive Instant Card directly through OverDrive
  • Your account will be processed immediately and notification will be sent to your mobile phone.
  • Your mobile phone number must be registered within the Cleveland Metropolitan School District
  • You must be 13 years old.
  • You will only have access to OverDrive materials until you apply for a CPL card in-person or online.
